Farmington - Carrie "Maxine" Kimmel of Farmington passed away at her home on Thursday December 9, 2021. Maxine was born Dec 21, 1929, the fifth of thirteen children. Her parents were John Henry Barnes and Myrtle Rankin Barnes. Maxine met the love of her life, Lester "Honey" Kimmel, in Las Palomas, NM, and they married in 1946. Six years later, they moved to Kirtland for Lester's work with El Paso Natural Gas Company.

Maxine was a wonderful and hardworking wife, mother, and Nana for a family that grew to include four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She retired after 38 years with First National Bank in 1995. She and "Honey" shared 58 years of amazing love and friendship until his passing in 2004.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, eight of her twelve siblings, and also by her son, Jimmy Lester Kimmel, in 2009. Maxine is survived by her daughters Lynda Kay Kimmel of Farmington, Janet Sue Cornish of Aztec, and by her four grandchildren: Meredith "DJ" of Farmington, Lisa, Kevin (Ashley) of Aztec, and Aaron of California. She loved her seven great grandchildren: Carlos, Seriah, Kiara, Zarielle, Adeline, Calissia, and Adam.

Maxine loved and was loved by many wonderful friends. A Celebration of Life will be planned in the late spring, her favorite time of year. Cremation has taken place. The family is especially grateful for God's comfort and mercy in her final days and to her physicians: Dr. Burns and Dr. Curtis Young. Also, her family thanks Maxine's special neighbors, Bill and Candace Young who were always available when she needed them.
