The Aztec girls and the Piedra Vista boys wrapped up strong starts to 2017, winning their respective Aztec Tiger Shootout soccer titles on Saturday.

The Lady Tigers edged Carlsbad in a 1-0 nail-biter to win the girls tournament, while the Panthers took down Bosque 2-1 in the boys finals. Both squads opened the new campaign at 3-0.

Aztec will resume action 4 p.m. Tuesday at St. Pius, while PV will compete in the Louie Cernicek Tournament Friday and Saturday in Los Alamos.

Despite losing in their respective semifinals matches, both the Tigers and the Lady Panthers won via penalty kicks on Saturday. Aztec beat Bernalillo, while PV defeated Bosque.

The Tigers (2-1) will host Hope Christian at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, while the Lady Panthers (2-1) will host Kirtland Central at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
