Memorial pavers available for installation in Berg Park
Prices range from $100 to $175
FARMINGTON — People who want a memorial paver displayed in Berg Park can purchase them from a local nonprofit organization that focuses on protecting and enhancing the city's river corridors.
More than 20 pavers have been installed, and there are already pavers being ordered for future installation.
River Reach Foundation board member Bob Lehmer said proceeds from selling the pavers will go toward trail amenities such as bike racks and benches. The price of pavers ranges from $100 to $175, depending on size.
For information about purchasing pavers, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
One paver is in memory of Joyce Donald, an influential Farmington woman who died in 2013. Donald served more than 30 years on Farmington's Better Business Bureau. She was also an active volunteer and raised money to support projects like the All Veterans Memorial Park and the Farmington Regional Animal Shelter.
Another paver recognizes the contributions of Bob and Gloria Lehmer, who have been working to expand the trails system as members of the River Reach Foundation for the past three decades.
Another paver recognizes the contributions the Navajo Transitional Energy Corporation has made to the Don't Meth with Us campaign that aims to reduce drug use in the county.
During a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday for the pavers, Farmington Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs director Cory Styron discussed the city's plans for the river trails. He said the city has begun working with a consultant to expand the trails starting at the existing Among the Waters Trail. The city is refinancing bonds to pay for the $2 million trails expansion that will complete the trail along the Animas River, connecting east and west Farmington.
He said within two years, the city likely will have a ribbon-cutting celebration for the completed river trail.
