FARMINGTON — A 23-year-old Farmington man was killed in a car crash Thursday afternoon south of Bloomfield, according to a press release from the New Mexico State Police.

Kensley Sylvester was a passenger in a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck involved in the crash, according to the press release. Police say a vehicle traveling northbound rear-ended the truck shortly before 3 p.m. at mile marker 135 on U.S. Highway 550, about 16 miles south of Bloomfield.

The pickup had stopped in the northbound lane while attempting to make a left turn, according to the press release.

The Silverado's driver and three other passengers were injured in the crash.

According to the press release, police do not believe any of the people in the Silverado truck were wearing seatbelts.

The driver of the vehicle that police say rear-ended the truck was transported to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries, according to the press release. Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash, State Police said, and the District Attorney's Office will decide whether any charges will be filed when the investigation is complete.
