Sheri Rogers reappointed to Aztec City Commission
AZTEC —The Aztec City Commission voted 3-1 to reinstate Sheri Rogers as a commissioner during a meeting tonight at City Hall.
Rogers was forced to resign from the position in May when she retired from her county job due to a rule related to public employees' retirement accounts. The rule allowed her to reapply and be reappointed to the commission seat.
Commissioner Katee McClure cast the sole dissenting vote.
"This was difficult and unique," she said prior to casting her vote.
She said she felt conflicted because Rogers had been elected to the position, but McClure was more impressed by Diana Mesch during the interview process last week. Mesch also had City Commission experience.
The other commissioners echoed similar sentiments.
"I really did like that both of them had experience as commissioners," Commissioner Austin Randall said.
Commissioner Sherri Sipe said she favored Rogers because Rogers was elected and plans to run again.
"I think both ladies are very qualified," Sipe said.
Rogers thanked the commission for the chance to finish her term, which will end in March. She was sworn into office during the commission meeting.
