The opening day of the Michelle Carew Classic wasn’t kind to the Piedra Vista Lady Panthers.
PV (11-3) dropped two games in Anaheim, Calif., on Thursday, each 1-0.

The Lady Panthers dropped the first game to El Toro High out of Lake Forest, Calif., despite out-hitting El Toro 5-3.

In the second game, PV fell to Righetti High from Santa Maria, Calif., with starting pitcher Krissy Fortner again only surrendering three hits.

PV came up with just two hits in the game against Righetti.

“Fortner pitched two great games. Unfortunately, we could not get a timely hit as we had several opportunities with runners in scoring position,” said PV head coach Kevin Werth. “... I am just disappointed we couldn’t push some runs across, but you can’t beat the competition and the pitching we are getting to see.”

PV will continue play in the Michelle Carew Classic for the next two days.
