SILVER CITY — A burglary at a Lake Roberts area home in which the thief made off with $55,000 worth of property, including the homeowner's $4,000 home security system, was solved this week thanks to an anonymous Crime Stoppers tip.
The burglary was discovered on the morning of Dec. 10, when a neighbor noticed that the shed at his neighbor's house was open. Knowing that his neighbors were not home, the man went over to check it out and discovered that the meter to the power had been pulled out and the sliding door to the home was open and bolt cutters were lying on the ground just outside the door. The man then went inside and discovered the big screen HDTV missing and drawers opened and the home ransacked and burglarized.
Grant County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the home on the 100 block of Highway 35, and the homeowners were contacted and asked to come to their home and make a list of what was missing.
On Dec. 26, the Grant County Sheriff's Department contacted Crime Stoppers and requested a reward on the burglary and Crime Stoppers authorized a $1,000 reward. The reward and Crime Stoppers contact information were published in the Sun-News on Dec. 27. Shortly after that, the anonymous tip line received the tip.
Lt. Michael Aguirre with the Grant County Sheriff's Department confirmed that Richard Trujillo was arrested on a Crime Stoppers tip in connection with the burglary.
Trujillo has been charged in Silver City Magistrate
Aguirre said the investigation into the burglary is ongoing and other suspects are still being looked into.
Sandy Suhr, president of Grant County Crime Stoppers, said she was happy to learn that the Lake Roberts burglary was solved through a Crime Stoppers tip.
