SILVER CITY — Early voting begins today at the Grant County Clerk's Office. It is also the last day to register to vote if you want to vote in the Nov. 6 general election.
Hours for early voting are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Voters in Grant County, regardless of party, can get a free ride on the Voter Express bus to the Grant County Administration Center, 1400 Highway 180 E.
Beginning today, Corre Caminos will pick up voters, take them to the Grant County Clerk's office to vote and then back to their drop-off points. The bus ride will also be available the morning of Oct. 16 and the afternoons of this Thursday and Oct. 18.
To take advantage of the free Voter Express ride, registered voters need to reserve a seat 24 hours in advance by calling Corre Caminos at (575) 388-3180.
Another reason to vote early is to avoid lines at the polls.
On Election Day, instead of precinct polling places, Silver City voters will be voting at one of six Voting Service Centers located in Silver City (two locations), Tyrone, Bayard, Santa Clara, and Hurley. Voters in rural parts of Grant County, such as Cliff, Lake Roberts, the Mimbres Valley, Redrock, Pinos Altos, Hachita and Mule Creek, will still be able to go to their traditional polling place.
To register to vote, to vote early, or to request an absentee ballot, call the Grant County Clerk's office at (575) 574-0042.
Absentee ballot applications can also be downloaded at
Early voting at the Bayard Community Center begins Saturday Oct. 20, and will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Early voting ends Nov. 3.
