ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—Authorities have identified a man shot by Albuquerque police after he allegedly robbed a woman and tried to steal a vehicle from another person at gunpoint.

Police say 34-year-old Joaquin Ortega remained hospitalized Tuesday, but will be booked into jail after he's released.

They say he's facing charges of armed robbery, child abuse, aggravated assault and aggravated assault on a police officer.

Police say Ortega is a convicted felon and also is facing federal charges in connection with Monday's incident.

Ortega was shot about 4:45 p.m. after allegedly crashed a car along Central Avenue, robbing a woman who was with her 6-year-old son and then attempted to carjack another person.

Police say the officer involved in the shooting wasn't injured.
