Mr. and Mrs. Donald Jr. and Sarah Walker, of Farmington, will celebrate their pearl wedding anniversary on Monday. In June, the couple traveled to Peru and visited Machu Pichu, Raghi Temple, Sillustani Temple, Ollantaytambo Fortress and Sacsayhuaman Fortress ruins. They also toured the San Francisco Convent, Museum of Archaeology, Andahuaylillas Chapel and the islands of Uros and Taquile.
Sarah Menapace met Donald through a singles ad that she posted on the Public Service Company of New Mexico bulletin board. They were married Aug. 18, 1984, at the Inn in Gallup, and District Court Judge Louis E. DePauli performed the ceremony. Three years later on Aug. 18, 1987, Father Lawrence Schreiber blessed their marriage at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Farmington.
Don was the outage planner with the PNM, and he retired after 31 years of employment. Sarah was an elective teacher with Farmington Municipal Schools and retired after 25 years of employment.
The couple are HAM radio operators and belong to the Totah Amateur Radio Club. They enjoy golf, and they love to travel in the truck camper. Don enjoys white water rafting and four-wheeling in his Jeep. Sarah hikes, bikes, swims, writes, reads, scrapbooks and attends community events.
The couple have no children, but they have a lovable, Maine coon-looking cat named Darcy.
