FARMINGTON — With the District 1-2A title on the line, Navajo Prep's softball team came up just short against Rehoboth.
The Lady Eagles split the doubleheader with the Lynx, dropping the opening game 10-6 before coming back to win the second game 11-10 on Thursday in Farmington.
Prep (14-12, 7-1, District 1-2A) lost out to Rehoboth (20-6, 7-1) on the district title via the run-differential tiebreaker.
"It's not what we wanted, but we had a good showing against them," Prep head coach Darin Wright said.
Prep fell behind to the Lynx early in the first game after allowing six runs in the second inning.
"We gave up six in the second, all unearned, and we couldn't dig out," Wright said.
In the second game, Prep entered the seventh inning trailing 10-9, but Dana Pinto came up with the two-run walkoff single to give the Lady Eagles the victory.
The Lady Eagles will be off until Wednesday, when they begin the 2A state tournament in Rio Rancho.
The first round of the 16-team bracket will be single elimination. If Prep wins the first game, it'll enter the eight-team double elimination tournament for the championship.
Wright said he thinks his team will enter the bracket as the No. 5 or 6 seed, but he isn't too concerned with the seeding. He expects his team to be prepared regardless of its place in the bracket.
"We're ready," Wright said. "We know what have to work on."
The New Mexico Activities Association is scheduled to release the 2A bracket on Sunday.
