FARMINGTON — The Piedra Vista boys and Kirtland Central girls won the District 1-4A golf titles Monday at Piñon Hills Golf Course in Farmington.

PV shot a team score of 323 to finish ahead of second-place Farmington by 29 shots. The Lady Broncos were the only team in the district with a full team and won the tournament with a score of 382.

The Panthers' Donald Thornton won the individual medalist with a score of 75, finishing five shots ahead of his teammate, Riley Rahm, for the honor.

Tyler Montano (81), Davis Gurley (87) and Dennis Rahm (88) all placed in the top 10 to earn all-district honors for PV.

"I think the scores were solid," PV head coach Floyd Kurley said. "We just need to focus on putting and chipping when we get to state."

Farmington's Tyler Sala (83), Payton Yazzie (85) and Jordan Martinez (91) earned all-district honors for the Scorpions.

KCHS had two boys finish in the top 10. Tristin Goodwin shot 82, and Dominique Ellison shot 90 to finish with an all-district team place.

The Broncos shot 379 as a team to take third place. Aztec finished in fourth as a team with a score of 406.

Three Lady Broncos — Aubri Blueeyes, Tyla Jones and Darmika Frank — each shot 92 to lead KCHS.

Hope Tsosie (106) and Judith Camacho (109) also made the all-district team for the Lady Broncos.

Aztec's Sheri Halstead (133) and PV's Marissa Fergal (151) finished with all-district spots for their schools.

Kurley was named the boys district coach of the year. Steve Williams of KCHS was named girls coach of the year.

The 4A state tournament will be held on Monday and Tuesday at the UNM South course in Albuquerque.

"Every course has a different character to it," Kurley said. "We have to find out what makes this course unique."
