FARMINGTON — Aztec and Farmington will have a chance at the Lady Scorpions' tournament title.

Both teams advanced to the championship round, along with Los Lunas, after sweeping their two pool games on Friday at the Ricketts Park softball fields.

FHS (4-5) dominated Santa Fe 9-1 before shutting out Taos 14-0 to advance out of Pool A.

"Santa Fe had a nice pitcher who will do well for them as the season goes on. Our hitters settled down, dialed in and ended well," FHS head coach Johnny Curry said. "Our pitching was strong with Briana (Wallace) catching a good game."

Aztec (9-0) cruised through St. Pius X 10-0 and then beat Miyamura 13-3 in Pool C to join the Lady Scorps in the finals.

"I felt like the girls hit the ball well," Aztec head coach Jose Santistevan said. "We've been getting off to slow start, but we're able to get it going."

Los Lunas also moved on after defeating Kirland Central and Bloomfield.

The championship round will begin today with FHS facing Los Lunas at 10 a.m. Aztec will then play Los Lunas at noon, followed by Aztec and FHS at 2 p.m.

Piedra Vista sweeps doubleheader with Gallup

The Lady Panthers (8-2) needed extra innings to beat the Lady Bengals in the opening game of a doubleheader before dominating the second game to earn the sweep of the two game set.

"They were both good games for us," PV head coach Kevin Werth said. "We saw some quality pitching."

PV needed eight innings to knock off Gallup 7-4 in the first game.

"They had the winning run at third in the bottom of the seventh, but were able to work out of it and tack on three in the eighth," Werth said.

The Lady Panthers then had an easy time in the second game, finishing off Gallup 17-1 in four innings.

PV will play Volcano Vista in a week from Saturday.
