FARMINGTON - Kirtland Central's girls basketball team hit three 3-pointers in the final minutes to get a come-from-behind win against Farmington.
The Lady Broncos erased an eight-point deficit late in the fourth quarter to defeat the Lady Scorpions 50-47 on Saturday at the Lady Scorpions Invitational at Farmington High.
"They really spread out their zone, and we were able to attack and drew defenders," said KCHS coach Rochelle Curry.
Keeshawna Ockerman scored a game-high 19 points for KCHS (3-6) in the win, and Shamika Benally hit two of the three late 3-pointers to score eight points for the Lady Broncos.
"They just took good shots and were able to knock them down," said FHS head coach Danny Secrest.
The Lady Scorpions played a solid first half, taking a 20-15 lead into the locker room.
Meeya Yazzie led the Lady Scorps (4-4) with 12 points.
The Lady Scorps' next game will be at the St. Michael's tournament on Thursday when they play Pojoaque Valley. KCHS is off until Jan. 2 when the Lady Broncos will host Española Valley.
Shiprock (11-0) won the tournament with an 82-40 victory over Bayfield, Colo.
Shania Harry scored 15 points in the win. Shantai Grey added 12, and Ashley John and Lacey Howe chipped in 11 apiece.
"We are taking one tournament at a time," said Shiprock head coach Larenson Henderson. "I'm really proud of the girls and where they are going."
Taos 55, Bloomfield 26
The Bobcats fell into a big hole early and were never able to dig out against the Tigers at the Chieftain Invitational in Shiprock.
Taos (8-2) built a 15-4 lead in the first quarter, and it was downhill from there, Bloomfield head coach Devon Manning said.
"The effort was better, but we just weren't smart with the ball against their pressure, and they got a lot of second chances," Manning said.
The Bobcats (2-7) will be off until Jan. 7 when they play at Aztec.
