FARMINGTON  Piedra Vista volleyball capped off the District 1-4A tournament with a straight set victory against Aztec on Saturday.

The Lady Panthers defeated the Lady Tigers 25-19, 25-21, 25-15 to complete a sweep of the regular season and the district tournament titles.

"We're really excited about it. I was really proud that the girls played nice and steady," said PV head coach Ron Becker. "Aztec came out strong and played great."

Aztec (14-8) was able to keep the setsclose with PV (19-2) but wasn't able to find a way to get past the Lady Panthers.

"The girls played well, and we had moments where we'd get ahead, but they'd string some points together," said Aztec head coach Anna Strauss. "They served us really tough."

Samantha Sofka led PV with 11 kills, and Vanessa Harris had 24 assists.

Aztec's Madie Sims had six kills to lead a balanced Lady Tiger attack.

Both teams will await the state tournament bracket to see their postseason matchups.

Becker's team expects to be the No. 1 seed in the 4A tournament while Aztec is hoping to get one of the final at-large bids.

"I'd be absolutely shocked if they don't put (PV, Aztec and Farmington) in," Becker said. "We've played 11 of the top 12 teams, and I guarantee Aztec deserves to be there."

Strauss thinks the No. 12 Lady Tigers have put together a strong enough resume to warrant a bid.

"I've told everyone on my team to get together whatever good luck charm they have to get the good vibes going. Hopefully, our play throughout the season will get us in," she said.

No. 4 Farmington High will also be in the 4A state tournament as an at-large team.
