FARMINGTON — The Shiprock cross country teams had solid meets over the weekend.
The Lady Chieftains emerged with their second victory of the season by winning the Miyamura meet on Saturday.
Cassandra Peters finished in third overall with a time of 19:55 while Lacey Howe placed fifth in a time of 20:10.
Shiprock had five of the top 25 finishers in the meet.
Miyamura finished its own meet in second behind the Lady Chiefs, while Gallup placed third.
Kirtland Central finished the race in sixth place.
On the boys side, Shiprock finished the race in fourth place.
Shawvan Levi was the top finisher for the Chieftains in third place with a time of 15:23.
"Our boys got off to a bad start," said Shiprock head coach Brian Paniagua. "It wasn't up to our potential, and it shows we have some things to continue to work and improve on."
Domonic Crosby placed 13th for Shiprock with a time of 16:43, but was the only other Chieftain runner to place inside the top 30.
Zuni won the boys meet, followed by Miyamura in second and Gallup in third.
Kirtland Central placed sixth as a team in the boys meet as well.
Piedra Vista competed in the Southwest XC Challenge in Bayfield, Colo., on Saturday.
The boys placed second as a team, while the girls finished in fourth.
Harrison Fleming won the event with a time of 17:20, and Timberlin Henderson finished just behind his PV teammate in second with a time of 17:22.
Durango, Colo. won the event as a team with the Panthers coming in second.
Paris Chee led the girls' team with a sixth place finish in a time of 21:43.
The Demons capped off a sweep of the event by winning the girls' team title too.
