FARMINGTON — The Navajo Prep softball team was awarded the No. 3 seed in the 2A/A bracket on Sunday by the New Mexico Activities Association.
Lady Eagles' head coach Darin Wright was hoping his squad would receive a little better draw from the NMAA.
“I thought we might get a No. 2 seed. Our schedule was pretty tough,” Wright said.
Prep will play No. 14 Laguna Acoma on Wednesday at Rio Rancho High School in a single elimination game with the winner advance into the double elimination tournament.
The Lady Eagles haven't face Laguna Acoma this season.
“They played Shiprock earlier this season, so I know a little bit about them,” Wright said.
Wright believes that a strong district schedule has prepped the Lady Eagles for a deep tournament run.
“We were the only district to get all four teams in so it was tougher than most,” he said. “I like our chance, but we have to play everybody and just take it one game at a time.”
Also making the tournament from Prep's district were No. 4 Rehoboth, No. 12 Zuni and No. 16 Tohatchi.
The Lady Eagles' game is scheduled for noon with the winner playing again at 4 p.m., also at Rio Rancho High School.
