The senior wide receiver caught three touchdowns and coupled that with two interceptions on defense in Piedra Vista's 54-0 win over Bernalillo on Friday night.
Martinez is a major reason the Panther offense has exploded for 48 points per game this season and said he is excited that his team has so many weapons to choose from.
"After going through the last couple of years, especially last year, we didn't have a lot of other guys, so defensives would double and triple team me," he said. "It's nice to have four, five or six guys that you can get the ball to, and they are just crazy dangerous. It makes everyone's job a little bit easier, that's for sure. My teammates really set me up well and all the credit goes to them. The quarterback and offensive line really set me up well."
Panther head coach Jared Howell said the offensive balance has been key to this season and Martinez's team mentality has been an important factor.
"It's a luxury. When you have that many playmakers, if someone is having a down game or getting shut down, then someone else steps up," Howell said. "A lot of kids grow up in a me first society and it's thumping your chest and getting your touches. He's not that way. He wants to win football games.
"The ability for us to spread the ball around eliminates their ability to target on one person. He's still getting touches, and ironically his production this year is ahead of last year when he was the focal point, because now we're getting bigger opportunities."
Being one of the few seniors for PV, Martinez has welcomed a leadership role on the team, and he said his style is to let his play speak for him.
"I just lead by example. I'm not a big rah, rah guy," Martinez said. "I don't think talking gets you anywhere. We've had some guys like that in the past that say they will do this and for you to do this, but then they don't do it. I just try to do the extra stuff. Hopefully, everyone will see that and follow my example."
Martinez's goal following high school is to continue playing in college and said he will do anything in his power to make that happen.
"I've had a lot of letters from JUCOs," he said. "The goal is to play ball and if I have to go JUCO or walk-on somewhere then I'll do that."
