FARMINGTON — New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez appointed Connie Johnston to the San Juan County Division 1 Magistrate Judge seat last week.
The governor made the appointment on Aug. 15.
Johnston won the Republican primary election for the position on June 3. She faced six other candidates on the ballot.
Johnston does not have a Democratic challenger in November's general election. She worked for the San Juan County Sheriff's Office for about a decade as a detective before retiring on Aug. 15.
Johnston will take over for Carla Vescovi-Dial, the former Magistrate Judge for Division 1. Vescovi-Dial is retiring.
