SHIPROCK — Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly has lifted the fire restriction on tribal lands.
"The Navajo Nation fire restriction was executed because of high fire danger. However, the monsoon weather has substantially reduced this risk," Shelly said in a press release issued by his office on Tuesday.
The president, along with Bureau of Indian Affairs Regional Area Director Sharon Pinto, signed the order ending the ban on Aug. 1.
Despite lifting of restrictions, Shelly said responsible fire usage, especially in forest and woodland areas, must be observed.
Additionally, according to the press release, the public should be aware that monsoon rains can cause flooding and travel is discouraged when water covers the roads.
