FARMINGTON — Officers from the Farmington Police Department's SWAT team arrested a 41-year-old woman suspected of firing a gun inside her house on Bellflower Circle Monday morning.

The woman was safely taken into custody after a six-hour standoff in the 3800 block of Bellflower Circle, according to a department press release.

The woman is not named in the release.

Her husband told police that he left the residence after an argument with his wife, but returned to get items for work. He found his wife holding a handgun and saw that shots had been fired inside the house. The man exited the residence, heard another shot fired and then contacted police, the release states.

Police established a perimeter around the house at about 8 a.m. The woman exited her home and was taken into custody without incident at 2 p.m.

Police are seeking to charge the woman with negligent use of a deadly weapon, resisting and obstructing and criminal damage to property of a household member.

This is the second time in less than two weeks that the Farmington SWAT team has responded to a standoff involving a firearm near Esperanza Elementary School.

Rick Kennedy, 53, was arrested July 25 after a brief standoff at his residence at 713 Mesa Vista Drive. Farmington Police Department said in a press release that Kennedy exited his house naked and called a neighbor a rude name. He then sat cross-legged under a tree and began tracking her movements with a rifle.

Kennedy was taken into custody without incident and faces several felony charges, including three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of child abuse.
