SHIPROCK — The FBI is continuing to look for information regarding the June 22 death of Ryan Hill, a 21-year-old Shiprock High School graduate whose body was found on Mesa Farm Road on the Navajo Nation.
According to a news release from the FBI, a witness reported seeing a man run after a bright red GMC or Chevrolet pickup truck, possibly a 2012 model, shortly before Hill's body was discovered on Mesa Farm Road, about six miles west of Shiprock. The location is known locally as the "second wash before the old end of the pavement."
Hill's body was found at 9:26 p.m., the release states.
The truck stopped and started while the man chased it, according to the witness. A man and three women, possibly Native American, were in the back of the truck, and an unknown number of people were in the cab, the release states.
Frank Fisher, a public affairs specialist for the bureau, said Hill worked at a local Burger King and was out with friends from work on the night he died. They dropped him off on Mesa Farm Road near his home, Fisher said.
Fisher said Hill routinely ran at night, and he was wearing running clothes the night he died. His Burger King uniform was in a backpack, which has not been found.
Hill, a 2011 graduate of Shiprock High School, was a defensive lineman on the school's varsity football team and played left field for the varsity baseball team, according to maxpreps.com.
Fisher said the FBI is waiting on the results of a toxicology report, but the apparent cause of death was a head injury. So far, the FBI's investigation does not indicate Hill was drinking on the night of his death.
Investigators have not yet determined whether the vehicle identified by the witness is connected to Hill's death or if the occupants are potential witnesses, the release states.
The bureau is seeking information from anyone who may know the owner of the vehicle or the whereabouts of the truck. Investigators would also like to speak to anyone who may have been in the area around the time Hill's body was found.
