FARMINGTON — Members of the San Juan College board approved an amended contract for president Toni Pendergrass during Tuesday's meeting.
Pendergrass' salary for the 2013-2014 school year was $179,375 and a 1.2 percent increase was approved in her amended contract, bringing her salary to $181,617 for the 2014-2015 school year, spokeswoman Renee Lucero said in an email.
Pendergrass also received a performance bonus of $10,762.50, Lucero said.
"I'm thrilled with the level of support I have with the board and it's certainly been a team effort of all the employees at the college to make sure we are achieving our objectives," Pendergrass said.
Board chairman Joseph Pope said the board members have discussed Pendergrass' performance in a number of meetings and were happy with what she has accomplished in the last year.
"She's done so much to improve the communication in the college," Pope said. "We were happy to amend her contract and give her the performance bonus she deserved as well as an increase in her salary."
Pope said the salary increase was based on the recommendation from Condrey and Associates, the consulting group that conducted a compensation study for the college. The college board approved about $1.7 million in raises for most of its employees during an April board meeting. Those raises are to be implemented during the current and next school year.
Pendergrass said she is going to work hard on increasing enrollment and retention at the college. In cooperation with members of the college counsel and strategic services committee, she said she plans to increase student success and completion rates.
