FARMINGTON — A Sanostee man was sentenced to more than two years in federal prison Wednesday morning for allegedly assaulting a 16-year-old girl.
Jayson Gustina, 24, reportedly assaulted and tried to rape the girl in August 2013 in Shiprock, according to a press release from the U.S. Department of Justice. He was arrested in October based on a criminal complaint.
In March, Gustina admitted in court he had assaulted the girl and that the girl had severe bruising, swelling and a fractured cheek bone as a result of the assault.
In addition to the two years in federal prison, Gustina was sentenced to three years of supervised release and was ordered to pay $1,654.92 in restitution to cover the costs of the girl's medical care.
