FARMINGTON — Farmington police responded to a car crash around 7 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of East Main Street and Rancho De Animas Drive.

The crash occurred when a 2012 Jeep traveling on East Main Street struck a Lexus SUV that was stopped at a red light, according to a press release from the Farmington Police Department.

After the crash, police say the Jeep's driver, 62-year-old Farmington resident Ward Greg Hamilton, fled on scene on foot. Officers later found Hamilton on Villa View Drive north of Main Street.

Hamilton was arrested and charged with driving under the influence.

The Lexus' driver was transported to San Juan Regional Medical Center after complaining of neck pain. A child passenger was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
