FARMINGTON — Containment of the Assayii Lake Fire remains steady at 5 percent, according to a Thursday morning update from the Southwest Area Incident Management Team 3.

The fire increased slightly overnight to 13,448 acres.

Fire dozer and hand line construction continued overnight along the fire's edge.

Today, firefighters will continue direct hand line and fire dozer line construction. They will also patrol and mop up secure areas along the fire edge.

The incident management team also reports that fire dozer line construction will continue around the northeast fingers of the fire and the southern flank.

Wind gusts are forecast to be at less than 10 miles per hour today.

Damages remain under assessment by personnel, and N.M. Highway 134, Navajo Route 30 and Navajo Route 31 remain closed. The general public is encouraged not to travel on access roads leading to the Bowl Canyon Recreation Area in Crystal Chapter.
