FARMINGTON — Fantasy card players now have a new place to buy cards and meet for tournaments.

Shuffled Dreams — Hobby, Gaming and Collectables, 2450 E. Main St., Suite H, celebrated its opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday afternoon.

The store's owners, who opened the store about two weeks ago, hope they can spark interest in a game that has been played by millions across the country.

The store sells cards for Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon and other fantasy card games. But Larry Hudson, store owner, said his favorite game is Magic: The Gathering.

"It's one of the most fun games I've ever tried," he said. As a result, the store hosts tournaments for the card game.

The store has six tables set up for card players, and Hudson hopes as interest grows, players and patrons will buy packs of cards, which cost a little more than $4 per pack after tax.

Hudson also says the games are good to teach young children math and reading skills since they usually involve counting and strategy.

The store also offers playing cards, card accessories and has a small section for collectable comic books, including an "Amazing Fantasy" comic book with the first appearance of Spider Man.

That comic book has a price tag of $500.

During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the Farmington Chamber of Commerce Redcoats showed their support for the new business.

"We're hoping that when (customers) come, they'll buy a pack of cards," said Chelle Durbin, Redcoats president.

Larry Hudson's wife, Tina, represented the store during the brief ceremony and said interested young people are welcome to come in to learn how to play the various card games.

"We can teach the younger kids that come," she said.

Larry Hudson, though, said people of any age are welcomed at the store to learn how to play card game. He also invited parents who want their kids to play something other than video games.

"If you got a kid you can't get off the Xbox, bring them here and buy them a starter kit. We'll get them to play something else," he said.
