FARMINGTON — A Shiprock resident is under consideration for continued service on the Diné College Board of Regents for the Northern Agency.

Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly has reappointed Fannie Atcitty to serve on the board for a six-year term beginning October 2012 and ending October 2018.

Atcitty is the board president, a post she has held for the past six years.

In a letter of interest, Atcitty stated the board members and Diné College President Maggie George worked to achieve the 10-year accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Atcitty earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales and has two master's degrees from Doane College in Nebraska.

She also was a member of the Haskell Indian Nations University Board of Regents from 2008 to 2011.

The bill became eligible for committee action on Thursday and is assigned to the Health, Education and Human Services and the Naa'bik'íyáti' committees.
