FARMINGTON — A Hogback man was sentenced to more than 12 years in federal prison Wednesday morning for raping a woman while she slept, according to a press release from the U.S. Department of Justice.
On May 9, 2013, a federal jury found Myron Jim Harry, 27, guilty of sexually abusing the woman.
According to the press release, Harry went to the victim's Shiprock apartment in May 2010 to celebrate her birthday. Early the next morning, the woman was sleeping next to another woman in the bedroom. Harry allegedly entered the bedroom, and the victim woke up to find him raping her, according to the release.
The woman sleeping beside the victim also woke up and yelled at Harry to get off the victim and threw him out of the apartment.
An exam showed the victim sustained physical injuries to her vaginal area, and Harry's semen was found on her, according to the press release.
Harry said during trial that the victim seduced him, and the intercourse was consensual, according to the press release.
Following his prison sentence, Harry will have 10 years of supervised release and will be required to register as a sex offender.
