NASCHITTI — A groundbreaking ceremony took place on Thursday for the new Naschitti Elementary School.

The new school is estimated to cost $7.9 million.

The New Mexico Public Schools Facility Authority is expected to fund 63 percent of the project, and the district will cover the remainder of the cost with money from the 2009 bond election.

The new Naschitti Elementary will include a hogan-shaped entryway, softball field, playground, outdoor basketball court and enough classroom space for 125 students.

It is located adjacent to the current school’s gymnasium.
