FARMINGTON — The San Juan Fly Fishing Federation is sponsoring a free seminar on fly-fishing this Saturday.

The event is from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Cottonwood Campgrounds, four miles below Navajo Dam. Attendees can meet at the parking along the San Juan River. Registration opens at 9 a.m.

A number of topics will be covered in 20- to 30-minute blocks. Topics include equipment selection and use, San Juan River aquatic life, rigging and knots, fly-fishing styles and river reading, float tubing and fishing regulations, river etiquette and fish handling and hands-on casting.

A New Mexico State Parks day pass is required for each car. A pass will be issued for free to seminar participants for the length of the event.

Bring a chair and pen and paper. Waders are no required.

There will also be free refreshments and door prizes.
