FARMINGTON — A Kirtland woman died on April 17 after she was struck by a vehicle on U.S. Highway 64 a week earlier.

Sheila Russell, 38, was hit by a car on April 10 near 4426 U.S. Highway 64 around 8:33 p.m. as she crossed the road, according to a San Juan County Sheriff's Office press release.

The driver of the car that hit Russell had not been charged with anything as of Wednesday morning, said Beth Utley, a spokeswoman for the sheriff's office.

Russell was initially taken to San Juan Regional Medical Center. She was later transferred to a hospital in Denver, Colo., where she died.

According to the press release, preliminary tests showed Russell may have been intoxicated at the time of the crash.
