FARMINGTON — Farmington police and local first responders will host the city's annual Tip A Cop fundraiser Friday and Saturday.

The fundraiser has been hosted for the past three years at Chili's, 4915 E. Main St. Proceeds from the event benefit Special Olympics.

Officers and first responders will bus tables for donations on both days from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Last year, the event raised $18,000, and, in 2012, it collected $13,000, Community Service Officer Jenny Dennis said. In 2010, when the event was held at Red Lobster and called Cops and Lobsters, officers and first responders raised $15,000, Dennis said.

She said the police department hosts many more Special Olympics fundraisers throughout the year, but Tip A Cop, Polar Plunge and T-shirts sales are the department's most profitable events.

Last year, she said, the department raised $28,000 for the Special Olympics.
