FARMINGTON — More than a hundred motocross racers of all ages will descend on the dunes and sand washes along the Old Bisti Highway this weekend.
Two days of motorcycle mania will kick off at 10 a.m. Saturday with the New Mexico Restart Enduro race at the Bureau of Land Management's Dunes Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation Area, an 800-acre area south of Farmington.
Racers young and old will have the chance to compete along a multiple-terrain, 9- to 11-mile race track. The racing Saturday will be followed by an awards dinner at 7 p.m.
On Sunday, the Wannabe Racing Hare Scramble motocross race will start at 10 a.m., including all racing classes, from novices to experts.
The Dunes Vehicle Recreation Area, south of Farmington on N.M. Highway 371, or the Old Bisti Highway, can be reached by heading south on Murray Drive to the Shell gas station. Then head south on Highway 371 for 1.3 miles and look for the race arrows on the west side.
The area will be closed to the public from 1 p.m. today through 5 p.m. Sunday for the event. The area will be open to racers and spectators.
