FARMINGTON — San Juan County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested a convicted sex offender on suspicion of several sex crimes.
Clifford Rogers, 54, of Farmington was arrested on March 10 for allegedly committing sex crimes against two young female relatives, according to a press release from the sheriff's office.
In June 2013, the girls reported to deputies that over the past year, Rogers touched them and exposed his genitals to them, including masturbating in front of them, according to the press release.
After relatives confronted him about the abuse, Rogers allegedly put chain locks on the inside of the girls' doors so they could lock him out. The girls told deputies Rogers would open their doors until the chain stopped it and put his genitals inside to taunt them, according to the release.
When deputies interviewed Rogers, he denied the allegations but admitted to installing locks both on the girls' doors and his own "so he would not have access to the girls and could not be accused of touching them," according to the release.
Rogers has a history of sex crimes, according to the release. In 2000, he pleaded guilty to multiple accounts of criminal sexual penetration and criminal sexual contact of a minor. That case stemmed from a sheriff's office investigation in 1997. The investigation found Rogers molested and raped a 13-year-old female relative, said Detective Lt. Cory Tanner in the release.
