FARMINGTON — When planning an outdoor adventure, it's important to have appropriate gear and make sure it's in top shape. To help with that, San Juan College has opened a repair shop in conjunction with the college's rental center.
Chris Sharp is the ski and bike technician for the shop, and he has taken several classes to become a certified tech.
"I got started working on the equipment that we rent out of the rental center. After I got certified, we decided we'd open it up to the public and offer another sort of service," he said.
JD Tanner, the director of the Health and Human Performance Center, said this is the first time the college has had an experienced and trained person working on gear.
"Our hope is we can be an affordable place that people can come to get things fixed," he said. "We also want to be able to show people how to do those simple fixes like zippers. "
