FARMINGTON — At least three people were injured in an oil rig fire south of Farmington on Tuesday, according to Sandoval County Fire Chief James Maxon.
The oil rig is owned by LF Well Service of Farmington and is located in a remote area off U.S. Highway 550 near Lybrook.
Luis Flores, owner of LF Well Service, said the employees were injured when the fire started at about 11:45 a.m. He said two of the company's employees were injured.
They were transported by helicopter and ambulance to the San Juan Regional Medical Center, he said. Flores did not know the condition of the employees.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Maxon said three county fire units responded to the scene and extinguished the blaze without incident.
Three units were called in, he said, because the closest fire station is located 43 miles away in Regina, which is north of Cuba.
