FARMINGTON — New Mexico state Rep. Tom Taylor, R-Farmington, announced Wednesday that he will not run to retain his House of Representatives District 1 seat.
"I've been an elected official for 32 years," he said. "It's time to do some other things."
Karen Bayless, of Farmington, said today she plans to run for the seat as a Republican. The date to file for the position is March 11.
Bayless advocates for education reform, energy development, and a smaller and smarter government that doesn't hinder economic development, according to her press release.
Taylor said he is retiring to spend more time with his family, focus on his real estate investments, and work at Artifacts Gallery, a Farmington art gallery and studio that his family owns.
"It's time for a change," he said.
