FARMINGTON — If it's not broken, don't fix it, the saying goes. But for owners of broken cellphones, there's light at the end of a tunnel, thanks to a new cellphone repair business in Farmington.

Cell Doctors, located at 3030 East Main St., Suite M, is in the business of saving phones and tablets.

"We fix everything," said Mike Fauteaux, one of the business' owners.

The 53-year old Farmington resident partnered with Todd Charles, 40, of Farmington, to open a shop the owners say is the only one of its kind in Farmington. Cell Doctors repairs phones and tablets onsite, which saves customers the wait if they had to mail their phones for repair.

"People don't want to be without their phones," Fauteaux said.

The pair opened their store, which is actually an open floor room behind Curls Salon, on Jan. 1. Since then, they say they have repaired as many as 10 phones day.

Most of their advertising has been word-of-mouth. Fauteaux said they have dropped Cell Doctors business cards at various cell phone vendors. He said a majority of the pair's business has been generated by referrals because local cell phone sellers don't offer onsite cellphone repairs.

The marketing efforts by the duo have included a listing in an online directory and a page on Facebook, which prompted a customer from Washington to contact the business.

"She sent us her iPod because no one up there could fix it," Fauteaux said, holding up the later generation iPod.

Charles said he and Fauteaux learned to repair cellphones and tablets through online training courses but the quality they deliver in their service comes from experience.

He added people have brought in phones that weren't working because the owners tried to repair them on their own or used low-quality parts.

"If you don't have the experience to fix it, you can ruin your phone," Charles said.

At first, Fauteaux said, the men bought less expensive parts to save money, but the parts sometimes wouldn't work. As a result and because of their experience, they have learned where to buy higher quality parts.

"We guarantee our work," Fauteaux said.

One recent customer said Cell Doctors fixed her phone quickly.

"They knew what to do to fix it, and they fixed it fast," said Lela Holmes.

Holmes is a realtor and depends on her phone for business.

"Realtors don't like to be without their phones and they get nervous real fast when they don't have their phones," she said.

Until a few weeks ago, Holmes said her phone would inadvertently hang up during calls, and the smart phone had a broken screen.

"I haven't anything but trouble with it since I bought it," she said.

Prior to finding Cell Doctors, Holmes said she would travel to Albuquerque, a 360-mile round trip, to have her phone examined or repaired.

"These guys seem to really know their business," she said.
