AZTEC — At its first meeting of the new year on Tuesday, Aztec City Commissioners will decide whether to seek public input on the city potentially giving economic development funding to local businesses to promote the city's arts and cultural district.
Another item scheduled to be taken up at Tuesday's meeting is a question over public signs -- especially those strung across Main Avenue in the historic downtown corridor -- for special community events.
A city code allows for prominent event signs to actively market community activities and tourism. But commissioners will determine whether signs or banners for for-profit events or fundraisers should also get prominent placement.
The public is encouraged to attend commission meetings, which are held on the second and fourth Tuesdays each month at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 201 West Chaco St., Aztec.
