FARMINGTON — The FBI arrested an Upper Fruitland man Tuesday in connection to a fatal traffic crash near Farmington on Dec. 23.

Fanderick Chiquito, 23, is accused of driving a truck while under the influence of alcohol and crashing on Navajo Route 36 near mile marker 25 at 9:40 p.m. on Dec. 23, FBI spokesman Frank Fisher said in a news release.

Witnesses said Chaquito was trying to pass vehicles in his 1997 Chevrolet pickup-truck when it collided with another vehicle.

A woman in Chiquito's truck was taken to San Juan Regional Medical Center, where she died the next day. The FBI did not identify her.

Chiquito and the other driver were not injured.

Tests showed Chiquito's blood-alcohol concentration after the crash was 0.29, which is more than three times the legal limit.

His first court appearance is Jan. 2, according to the FBI.

The FBI, Navajo Nation police, the San Juan County Sheriff's Office and New Mexico State Police responded to the crash.
