AZTEC — After a year with little more than the one or two members scrambling to keep the Aztec Chamber of Commerce afloat, the ailing business organization finally got down to business and elected a full board of directors last week.
Wilann Thomas, owner of Positive Strategy and Aztec Visitor Center customer service specialist, was appointed president. Thomas will take the reigns in January.
"I'm pleased about it and, like everything I do, it's in the interest of supporting our businesses and the community," Thomas said. "Right now, we are looking at the vision of the chamber now that we have a board and what strategies we can implement to grow as an organization."
Officers were also elected.
Bob Liscombe, business relations representative at Mercy Regional Medical Center, was elected vice president. Sandra Lanier, owner of Finish Line Graphics, will be the secretary. Amanda Hawks, owner of Aztec Floral Design & Gifts, was chosen as treasurer.
Remaining board members are Larry Turk, superintendent of Aztec Ruins National Monument and Chaco Culture National Historical Park; Bryan Vincent of Aztec Urgent Care; Kathy Hogan, owner of Cabinets Now; and Kris Summers, financial adviser at Edward Jones investment company in Farmington.
The chamber's next meeting will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sat., Jan. 18, at the Microtel Inn and Suites, Phoenix Ave. NE, in Aztec.
