FARMINGTON — An agreement to provide bus transportation for students in Crystal has been reached between the Central Consolidated School District and Gallup-McKinley County Schools.

CCSD board members unanimously voted to approve the agreement during a regular board meeting Tuesday at Newcomb Elementary School.

Although Crystal is located within CCSD's boundaries, its location on the west side of the Chuska Mountains hinders transportation by CCSD buses.

This is the first formal agreement between the two school districts, even though Gallup-McKinley has provided bus service for years to and from Crystal for students residing there to attend Gallup-McKinley schools in Navajo.

In addition to bus service, the agreement calls for Gallup-McKinley to report to CCSD the names, addresses and telephone numbers of students who are receiving transportation services and for Gallup-McKinley to report any cases of suspected child abuse or neglect involving students to social services in San Juan County.

The transportation boundary agreement goes into effect this month and lasts until June 30.
