FARMINGTON — Police are stopping traffic at the intersection of Piñon Street and Auburn Avenue following a two-car wreck, according to officials.

Police are diverting eastbound traffic up Lorena Avenue and westbound traffic down Behrend Avenue, said Farmington Police Cpl. Sierra Pafoya.

Farmington police received a call at 4:48 p.m., she said, after a Pontiac car driving along Piñon collided with a Ford pickup truck driving along Auburn.

Both drivers were transported to the San Juan Regional Medical Center, she said. The passenger of the Pontiac had to be cut out of the car, she said.

Investigations are still underway, she said. The cause of the wreck is likely that one of the vehicles ran a stop sign, she said, but which vehicle is still uncertain.

San Juan County Sheriff's Office deputies and San Juan Regional Medical Center paramedics were on scene with Farmington police, she said. Farmington Fire Department also responded, she said.
