SANTA FE — More opposition to Obama's push for military intervention came from Republican Congressman Steve Pearce of New Mexico.
Pearce, of Hobbs, said Tuesday he was cosponsoring a bill prohibiting use of money from any government department or agency for U.S. military force in Syria.
"American soldiers and their families have sacrificed enough," Pearce said in a statement. "American taxpayers have given enough. The rest of the world needs to step up. America cannot fight every battle."
Pearce said he commended President Obama for promising not to use force against Syria without congressional approval.
Even so, Pearce said, "I cannot support his desired course. It is the responsibility of Congress to use its constitutional authority to prevent this impulsive and misguided intervention."
The bill Pearce is cosponsoring was introduced by a fellow Republican, Rep. Ted Poe of Texas.
