FARMINGTON — The identify of the man killed Friday evening in a car wreck in Bloomfield has been released.
Marc Jordan, 47, of Farmington was killed when his Acura passenger car struck the back of a trailer being towed by a semitrailer, according to a news release from the San Juan County Sheriff's Office.
He died at the scene. No other people were inside the car.
The crash happened at 6:38 p.m. Friday near the intersection of U.S. Highway 550 and County Road 5500 in Bloomfield.
Both the semi and the passenger car were heading north on Highway 550. Witnesses reported that the Acura was driving “at a high rate of speed,” said San Juan County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Alan Jamison in the news release.
According to witness statements, the semitrailer was slowing down to make a right turn onto an unmarked dirt road when the Acura smashed into the back of the trailer, which was being towed by a semitrailer.
The semitrailer driver was not injured. His trailer has “very minor body damage,” according to the sheriff's office.
Jamison said on Friday evening that Jordan was wearing a seat belt, but it may have failed.
He also said that police have not found evidence that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
