FARMINGTON — A Farmington man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after he stabbed a co-worker with a can opener on Thursday morning, police said.
Shelley Cardenas, 45, was arrested at his Farmington home on Wednesday afternoon.
At 10 a.m. Wednesday, police were called to Al's Services, 1820 East 20th St., after a stabbing was reporting, according to a Farmington police news release.
Cardenas and Matthew Krump, 48, got into a fight in the employee kitchen at the business, and the fight spilled onto the shop floor, according to the news release.
Police said Cardenas stabbed Krump with a can opener and fled the scene.
Krump was taken to San Juan Regional Medical Center, where he was treated for minor injuries, Farmington police Lt. Taft Tracy said.
Krump told investigators the men were fighting over a pocket knife, which Krump said Cardenas stole from him on Monday.
