FARMINGTON — The San Juan County Sheriff's Office is searching for a man wanted in connection to a weekend robbery in Fruitland.

Kyle Martinez, a 28-year-old Farmington man, has a warrant for his arrest on suspicion of robbery. Investigators said he pushed a clerk and stole money from the cash register at the Giant gas station, 3890 U.S. Highway 64 in Fruitland. The robbery happened at about 1 a.m. on Saturday.

A woman entered the business and bought cigarettes, and, as the transaction was wrapping up, Martinez entered, hugged the woman and stole money from the cash register.

Investigators have interviewed the woman and are trying to determine if she was involved in the robbery, said Detective Lt. Cory Tanner.

The sheriff's office said Martinez should be considered armed and dangerous and cautioned anyone from approaching him. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call 911.

Tanner said Martinez has prior felony convictions for armed robbery, burglary and two convictions for battering a police officer. He also has a past conviction for sexually assaulting a young girl, Tanner said.

"He's got quite the criminal history, and we have to get him picked up," he said.
