FARMINGTON — The Farmington City Council approved policies Tuesday evening ranging from fireworks restrictions to trash pickup fee increases.

First, the council finalized about $325,721 in Community Development Block Grant allocations to People Assisting the Homeless, the San Juan County Partnership, Masada House, the San Juan College Family Resource Center and Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Mayor Tommy Roberts also issued a proclamation restricting fireworks use to barren or paved areas, or areas with ready access to water.

Restrictions will be in place through July 10.

The proclamation was accompanied by a resolution asking residents to voluntarily abstain from using fire sources during periods of extreme drought.

Also, the council approved a small increase in waste pickup fees. The fee increase is called for under the city's contract with Waste Management.

The base residential rate for four trash bins or less will rise from $15.29 to $15.39 per week.
