Derrick Duran was riding a bicycle south on Wall Street at about 4:20 p.m. when he was struck by a white sport utility vehicle heading west on Nambe Street, according to a Farmington Police Department press release.
A 70-year-old woman from Carlsbad was driving the SUV. The woman has not been issued a citation, said Sgt. Casey Malone in a Friday afternoon phone interview. The woman was not injured, according to a news release.
Duran was transported to San Juan Regional Medical Center about five minutes after police arrived at the scene of the crash, said Sgt. Pat Flores Thursday evening.
A police investigation determined that Duran entered the intersection without obeying a posted stop sign on Wall Street.
He suffered a fractured pelvis, fractured leg, lacerations on the elbows and face, several facial fractures and a head injury, according to a news release. The release notes that he is expected to survive.
A police investigation determined that alcohol and speed were not factors in the accident.
